Des honneurs pour Andréanne Morin
La vice-championne du monde nommée rameuse de l’année au Québec
Montréal, le 21 novembre 2011 – Sans surprise, la Montréalaise Andréanne Morin a été couronnée rameuse de l’année samedi soir dernier, lors du gala annuel de l’Association québécoise d’aviron (AQA). Déjà double olympienne, Morin était la chef de nage (capitaine) du huit canadien médaillé d’argent aux Championnats du monde d’aviron 2011, disputés à Bled, en Slovénie, en août dernier. Pour conclure la saison, la rameuse de 30 ans a remporté le championnat canadien, la semaine dernière, avec sa coéquipière de deux de pointe, Darcy Marquardt, de la Colombie-Brtitannique.
«Et avec son uniforme du Québec sur le dos», a souligné le président de l’AQA, Daniel Aucoin, qui lui rendait hommage en son absence. Monsieur Aucoin faisant référence au fait que Morin doit vivre à l’extérieur de la province pratiquement à longueur d’année depuis près d’une décennie, mais qu’elle porte fièrement les couleurs du Québec et se tient au courant des allers et venues des athlètes québécois à distance.
L’AQA a aussi souligné le travail de ses athlètes, entraîneurs et officiels les plus méritants :

Raphaël Soweif, athlète masculin senior;
Stéphanie Marchand, athlète féminine junior;
Hubert Blouin, athlète masculin junior;
Tony Tarlo, entraîneur de l’année;
Charles Hauss, officiel de l’année;

Daniel Aucoin reconduit à la présidence
Quelques heures avant le gala annuel, les membres de l’AQA ont reconduit Daniel Aucoin à la présidence de l’association. Dans les semaines précédant la conclusion de son premier mandat de deux ans, monsieur Aucoin, un travailleur autonome aux idées parfois plutôt originales pour une fédération subventionnée, avait clairement établi sa vision future de l’AQA. Une vision qui mènera l’organisation à effectuer des changements majeurs dans son fonctionnement structurel. Si les discussions ont été fort animées avant son élection, ce dernier a finalement été élu par acclamation. Par ailleurs, les membres de l’AQA ont comblé tous les postes de leur comité exécutif, une première en plusieurs années.

Le prochain événement majeur pour l’Association québécoise d’aviron se tiendra le 4 février 2012, à Laval, alors que les rameuses et rameurs québécois se disputeront les titres de champions québécois d’aviron en salle, sur ergomètre (machine à ramer).

The Number two female world champion named rower of the year for Quebec
Montreal, November 21, 2011 – It is without surprise that the Montreal rower Andréanne Morin was crowned as the “rower of the year” last Saturday evening during the annual Association québecoise d’aviron (AQA) dinner awards gala. Already a double Olympian, Morin was the Stroke person (captain) of the Canadian eight which medalled as silver at the 2011 world champions rowing competition which took place in Bled, Slovenia last August. To conclude her rowing season, this thirty year old rower won the Canadian Championships last week in paired oars with her rowing partner Darcy Marquardt of British Columbia.
“With her Quebec unisuit on her back”, commented Daniel Aucoin the president of AQA, who paid her tribute in her absence. Mr. Aucoin was making reference that Ms. Morin has practically had to live outside the province for most of the year for at least a decade, yet she proudly wears her Quebec colors and regularly keeps tabs on the coming and goings of her fellow Quebec athletes at a distance.

Daniel Aucoin re-elected as President
Several hours prior to the annual Gala, the members of AQA had re-elected Daniel Aucoin as the president of the association. During several weeks before the conclusion of his first two year mandate, Mr. Aucoin, a self-employed entrepreneur with ideas somewhat unconventional for a subsidized federation, clearly outlined his vision for the future of AQA. If brought to bear, this would result in major changes to the functioning structure of the organization. In spite of very animated discussions (on the proposed changes) prior to the election, the end result was his election by acclamation. In other news, for the first time in years all of the executive posts on the committee have been filled.
The executive committee now consists of:

Vincent Coté, vice-president development;
Marie Gareau, vice-president commuications – marketing;
Philippe Colas, treasurer.

The next major event for the Association québécoise d’aviron takes place in Laval the 4th of February 2012, where the rowers of Quebec will compete for the Quebec indoor rowing championships on ergometers (rowing machines).
The Association québécoise d’aviron is a non-profit provincial organization which governs the sport of rowing in Quebec. Its goal is to create and manage services and programs that attract and retain rowing club members in an integrated model that welcomes both competitive and recreational athletes.
